We left León right after breakfast, stopping at Astorga for a bit of sight-seeing. (A medieval cathedral, a sculpture garden, and an Episcopal Palace by Gaudi)

Then we climbed up out of León province, to O Cebreiro. This village has been a rest stop for pilgrims from the beginning, to aid them over the mountains on the boundary of Galicia. Ferdinand and Isabella stopped here on their pilgrimage, and afterwards funded the church here.
From there it was a slow grind, up and down the mountains of Galicia. Of course, it was made even slower when the bus broke down, and we had a several-hour stop while the driver, and a mechanic, and anyone else who could help tried to fix it. But, eventually, we rolled into Santiago de Compostela, tired and hungry, and long past dark.
