A transcription of the diary I kept while traveling in Spain in the summer of 2003.

Pamplona -> Iranzu

Breakfast in the hotel. Expensive, but with an entire pot of café for myself, plus fresh fruit.

Packed, caught the city bus to the train station, and bought a ticket for the other end of my trip, for the night train from Santiago to Madrid.

Then I walked down to the river to bird-watch for an hour or two. When I came back to the station I found Americans and Dutch and Germans trickling in, and a big bus waiting in the parking lot. Margriet showed up, we gathered a last batch of Dutch from the first afternoon train, loaded up the bus and drove back into town to pick up some Americans coming in on the afternoon bus (including Ginger, who had nearly been stranded at Heathrow by a strike).

Then we drove through Puenta de Reina (where two great pilgrim tails meet and cross a Romanesque bridge), Estella and Arbazuza to finally reach el Monestério de la Santa Maria de Iranzu.
